If you are getting sick and tired of charging up your credit card bill to put gas in your car, you may want to consider a hybrid for your next vehicle purchase.  Hybrid automobiles are now available in just about any type of vehicle you want.  You can get small, efficient hybrid cars, hybrid mini-vans, hybrid SUV’s, and now you can even get hybrid pick-up trucks.

Put your credit card away for a while because with a hybrid vehicle you won’t need to put gasoline in your car nearly as often.  This is especially true if you do most of your driving in the city.  Most hybrid cars run on the batteries up to 30-35 miles per hour, so you don’t use your gas at all at city speeds.  In fact, many hybrid owners report that they only have to take out their credit card at the gas pump less than 1/3 as often as they used to with their gas guzzling non-hybrid vehicles.

Hybrid vehicles are not only money savers, they are also environment savers.  The CO2 that emits from a gasoline powered car is one of the largest alleged culprits of our current state of global warming.  If everybody were forced to drive a hybrid car, we could quite possibly get our planet back as we once knew it, with fresh air and normal weather patterns and without worrying that our coastal cities will be under water in a matter of years.

Many people who have vaguely considered purchasing a hybrid vehicle have neglected to do so because they have heard stories that hybrid power doesn’t offer the performance as a gasoline powered car.  And that was true only a few years ago.  However, with technology ever increasing in the automotive industry, and virtually all of the automotive manufacturers in competition to build the best hybrids now, the performance standards have followed.  Hybrids can now perform just as well as any other car on the road under normal conditions.

Hybrids are now selling at affordable prices, too.  No longer will you have to spend as much on one hybrid car as you would have on two gasoline cars.  The reasons for this are competition, supply and demand, and because there is even newer, cleaner, more efficient green automotive technology in the works.  Think hydrogen!  If you must use your credit card, use it to put a down payment on your next hybrid vehicle.

For almost two years now, the current price of gasoline is a daily conversation topic and constantly monitored as though the value of our total retirement savings is at risk over the 20 cent rise or fall of the price of a gallon of gas.  When we are driving out of our way to go to the gas station that offers a “cash transaction” discount on a debit card purchase of 5 cents per gallon, instead of treating it like a credit card purchase as does the station a mile up the road, things are getting ridiculous.

I am, of course, being facetious and a bit sarcastic, but I am annoyed that the price of a commodity that I have no real control over is seeming to control so much of my consciousness.  In an effort to reduce the amount of bite the price of gas is taking out of our family budget, there are several measures we can take as drivers to improve the fuel efficiency of our vehicles:

Be sure the tires are properly inflated.  Under-inflated tires have more contact with the road, producing more friction and burning more fuel to accelerate.  Think about how much more difficult it was to ride your childhood bicycle when the tires were low.  Same effect here.

Another method to lower fuel consumption is to accelerate gradually.  Your car’s engine requires more fuel when “punched” to desired speed level, much like it takes more effort to push a heavy object up a hill quickly than if it is done at a level pace.  Runners who pace themselves also finish a race more successfully than those who burn all of their energy sprinting at the beginning of a race and running out of steam later.

Similarly, avoid stop and go traffic.  Coinciding with the manufacturer’s information recording the city and highway mileage expected from a vehicle, and expanding on the “don’t punch it” recommendation above, your vehicle will perform with more fuel efficiency if riding at a consistent speed rather than coming to a stop and then accelerating back up to speed.

While many municipalities and businesses are now offering four day workweeks to their employees to conserve fuel levels an expansion of this idea to make your gas dollar stretch further is to use “flex time” at work to arrive and leave at times which would avoid the stop-and-go traffic of morning and evening commuter rush hours.

Finally, make sure your vehicle is current in its maintenance.  Clean air and fuel filters will save gas by reducing the amount of interference against the engines moving components, and will also save a few extra dollars in costly repairs down the road.

Many people come to a time when they wish to sell their used car, and many people also don’t know how to go about doing that. It is not an easy task by any means, particularly considering the economy today. Don’t let that throw you though, with some diligence and patience you should be able to pull it off. If you want to go about selling your car, there are several avenues which you should consider. Some of these may be a bit obvious, while others may not.

The first thing that you should do is look up how much your car is worth, in order to determine how much you wish to sell it for. This information can be found in the Kelley Blue Book, which can be found online, at the library, etc. Generally, in order to actually sell the car, choose a price slightly higher than you truly want to sell it for. Then, you just negotiate with the buyer to the right price, and the buyer then gets a better deal, and you get the amount of money that you want. Of course, that always depends on the way that you are selling it.

In most cases, you can list your car in the classified section of the newspaper. This will get you some publicity, and will hopefully get your car sold. There are also other magazines or websites on which you can list them. Be patient, and continue to list it, eventually somebody will probably spark an interest. Put a decent description of how and what the car looks like. Make sure to include your information, and how to contact you.

Also check out people that you know that may be looking to buy a car. Ask your friends to tell people that they know that you are selling a car. Word of mouth could end up getting your car sold, the more people that know about your car, the better. Also, if your car is not something anybody wants to buy, you can always sell it to a junkyard, or donate it to a charity, where it could be useful.

These are just some of the ways to go about selling a used car; there are many different approaches that you could try. Also, make sure to be honest when selling your car, you don’t want anybody to pull something over on you, so don’t pull anything on anybody else.

Maybe you need a new car, and you don’t want to fork over all the money that buying a new car would entail. Buying a used car is something that you want to do, and you have to be careful about going about it. There are never any guarantees when buying a used car. Anything could have happened to the car, and that is why you need to be very careful when buying one, (not that there aren’t any problems when buying a new car). These are some tips on buying a used car.

The first thing you want to do is decide on the kind of car that you want to buy. Try to at least narrow down the list a bit, and keep your standards high. Read reviews of cars, ask people you know who drive them how they hold up, and make sure that it is what you want. Make sure that it is something that you can afford, and that it something that you can afford to maintain. Be sure that it will fill all of your needs.

When looking for the car, check out different websites, and always look for the classifieds in the paper. Pick out something that seems correctly price, legitimate, and is something that you really want. Always be careful, don’t give out information to any creeps, but try to find something good and get a decent deal. Today with the state of the economy, the seller probably just wants to sell their car period.

When you find a car you think that you may be interested in buying, make sure to check out its history. There are certain websites and services that can be used to do this, depending on where you’re buying the car. Be sure that you know what you’re getting into, and that nothing horrible has happened to the car. Check out everything that you can about the car, and make sure that everything seems to be in order and that hopefully the car will continue to work down the road.

These are just some tips on ideas to try when trying to buy a used car. Use your instinct, and do what you think is right. With any luck, you will end up with the best car for you, and things will work out well. Always remember to be careful who you associate with, and check out everything before you hand over any money.
