839234_motor_mechanicUnfortunately there comes that time when we need to get a new transmission for our vehicle.  Usually you will be able to tell because your car won’t shift properly, and the way the car runs is a little choppy.  These tend to be more on the expensive side, so there is a lot to look into before you settle for a new one.  Consider a few of these tips below before you get a new one installed.

Easy fix – Sometimes you may think your transmission went bad, but really it might be an easy fix.  If you can, just get it looked at and see if there is a smaller problem than you think.

Compare – You can always compare prices with different auto stores.  You can do this by calling up to see what their prices are before you set up an appointment.  This will give you a good price range, and will tell you who’s too pricey and who’s more in your price range.

Junk yard – It is also a good idea to consider a used transmission.  Junk yards have cars with some good parts.  These parts you can get for a great price, instead of having someone look at your car and install it with a new one.

Is it worth it? – You also want to think whether or not your car is worth it.  How many more miles do you think you can get out of it?  Transmissions can be thousands of dollars, so would it be a better idea to just get a new car?  You need to consider the mileage, and how long your engine will last.

Buying a new transmission is pretty frustrating.  Your cars not running right, you need a new car in the meantime, and the price of a new one might be a little costly.  Consider a few of these tips listed above, so you can save more money, and see if you your car is even worth it.

707275_keysWhen the time comes to buy your first car, it is very exciting yet a little overwhelming.  Most of us have been saving our entire life for this time, therefore we want to make sure we find something that is worth our money, and something that will last.  If you’re looking to buy your first car in the near future, here are a few things you should consider when doing so.

Tips for Buying Your First Car:

  • First, you should always think of the kind of car you’re looking for.  Meaning do you want a truck, car, SUV, etc?
  • Once you figure that out, hop online and see what there is for that specific category.
  • Now, do you have a certain car company that you’re looking to stay with?
  • How about your price range you’re looking to stay in?
  • Do your research and see which cars tend to last the longest.  This can be done by looking at message boards or car reviews.
  • You can go online and look at all the cars for sale in your area.  Pick out a couple that you’re willing to look at.
  • Never go with the first car you like.  Make sure you give yourself a few different options.
  • Make sure you test drive, and look at the interior and exterior very well.
  • Does the car have too many miles on it?
  • Have a parent or guardian look over the car for you as well.
  • Make sure everything works in the car.  Check the air, heating, radio, power locks, windows, etc.
  • Also, a good thing to do is to check the oil.  If it looks good the person probably took good care of it.  It if it’s dirty, they probably didn’t take care of it too well.
  • Find out whether the car has been in any accidents.
  • Price compare the vehicle with others.

There are several things to keep in mind, and to consider when buying your first car.  You want to make sure you don’t get ripped off.  So, before you make any final decisions, make sure you consider each of these tips listed above.

When looking to purchase a pre-owned car, there are a lot of places that you can start, but some of you may not have an idea on what website may be the best, and which one you should avoid.  In my opinion, you couldn’t be in a better position than now with the Internet, and all of it’s resources.

What websites should I go to find my pre-owned car?

Craigslist.orgCraigslist is by far one of the best free services on the web.  Here, you can post listings for free, and also browse other listings for free.  Sure, the interface isn’t the greatest, but you may be able to find some steals in your local area.

eBay - Another big site that a lot of people overlook is eBay.  Every day, you can find thousands of listings, and if you don’t mind traveling for a few miles, you may find a gem near you.  eBay makes it easy to find what you’re looking for.  A good seller on here is going to list a car with a bunch of photos, as well as a great description.

AutoTrader.com - A publication that used to be huge before the Internet age, is a giant now online as well.  If you head to any local grocery store, or liquor store, you may find this magazine sitting on the shelf.  The cool thing about the website is that you’re able to browse for cars for free.  As for the magazine, you’ll find that you’re going to have to pay for it.

Cars.com - One website that gets passed up a lot is Cars.com.  The reason that it may get passed up is solely based on the fact that a lot of people go to the websites mentioned above.    Cars.com was really big back in the day, but Craigslist took a fairly big market share.  Don’t forget to include this website in your search as well!
