When you think of customizing your car, most of us think about adding rims, getting a paint job, or potentially adding a DVD player to the back seat.  But, did you know that you can actually customize your car dashboard to appeal the way you want it to look?  Yes, just like changing the tile in the bathroom, you can change the trim on your dashboard, and it’s a lot easier than you think.

What is a dashboard trim kit?

A dashboard kit is basically interior trim that you can customize, and install on the dashboard in the car itself.  You will notice that many of the newer cars, or even your own have plastic and cheap looking dashboards.  Why not upgrade for $100 or so, and make your car look a million times better?

Why should I makeover my dashboard?

Be unique: Every car comes with the standard dashboard that’s plain, and boring.  If you’re unhappy with the carpet color in the house you just bought, are you going to live with it?  You’re probably going to change it.  You can easily get dashboard kits online for as little as $100 to $200.

Easy to install: It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how to install a trim kit.  By following the instructions that come with it, you’re going to find that it’s going to be a breeze.  Invite a friend over, and spend a Saturday afternoon polishing up your car.

Makes a used car look new: If you have an older car, you might want to go in, and check your dashboard, and see what it looks like.  You may want to look at how dirty, or scuffed up it is.  By adding trim, or re-vamping the dashboard, you’re only going to invest a few hundred dollars, but the interior is going to look a lot better.

It’s an investment: I’ve already mentioned it, but these kits aren’t expensive like you would think.  For as little as $200, you can customize your car to look great.  When you go to sell it in the future, you will find that people will actually be impressed with the quality, and efforts you put into the car to take care of it.

Now that you know of the dashboard kits, go out there, research them, and see if they fit your car!

When a new car comes out and we like it, we are mostly amazed by it’s great features, and beautiful body style.  Just last year we were hit by a huge problem.  Gas prices reached over $4.00 for the first time ever.  We were limited where we could drive because we didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg, jobs were switched to 4 days per week instead of 5, etc.  Gas prices really affect our lives and how much money we spend.

So, those amazing features and that beautiful body style are nice, but they may not be the top priority anymore when it comes to car.  There is no way to predict the future, so whether those prices will come back or not, we’re not sure.  Although, it’s important to keep that in the back of your head and see how it affects you.

How Gas Mileage Makes a Difference:

Lets say you make $3,000 each month being $36,000 a year.  Your car payment is $300 a month, and you pay $100 for insurance.  Therefore your car payment is $400 a month.  Although, that doesn’t include how much money you need to spend on maintaining it and gas money.

If gas were to reach $4.00 per gallon for a second time and your car gets 15 miles to the gallon, you’re going to have a problem.  Lets say your car holds 10 gallons.  So every time you fill up its’ going to be $40.00.  You will only be able to drive 150 miles per tank.  What if your job is 20 miles away, and you drive there and back?  That’s going to cost a fortune to do everyday.

This only counts for going to work, what about all the daily errands that need to be ran?  It is safe to safe you will be paying a large part of your paycheck on your car.  Just the $400 a month to have it, plus who knows add another $200 in gas per month that really adds up and takes away from your saving money.

A car with bad gas mileage is foolish, and should be thought about for a second time.  Don’t let all your money go to gas.  Once again, who knows when those prices will be back or if they’ll be even $5 per gallon in the future!

If you have bad credit, you’ve probably realized that life is a little harder on you.  Bad credit scores call for high interest rates, and qualifying for less loans when you need them.  Banks are leery about lending money to you simply because they are worried you can’t pay it back.

So, how can you make any big purchases when you have bad credit?  For example, how would you buy a car if you needed one?  Continue reading below to find out!

How to Buy a Car With a Low Credit Score:

Check score -  First of all, it is important to check out your credit score and see if there are any updates with it.  Also, check for any errors there might be.  There may be outstanding debts still on it that you’ve paid off.  Make sure everything looks correct before you look for cars.

Pay -  If you can, pay any outstanding debts.  Debt takes a toll on your credit score and can lower it tremendously.  Try to pay off any debt you have, so you can give it a boost.

Advice -  Get advice from the salesman at the dealership.  Ask them what they do when people are in the same situation as you.  Ask for banks that are more lenient, or for any advice you can get.

Co-signer -  You may need a co-signer to be able to get the vehicle.  If you think you can handle bringing on a car on top of all your other payments let someone close to you know that.  Reassure them you’ll be fine and that you just need their name to be able to get the car.

Look over – Once you’re approved, you want to make sure you look over all the paper work well.  Make sure you realize what your interest rate is, what your payment per month is, how much it will cost to insure, etc.  These are all important and must be agreed to during the time.

Buying a car with a low credit score can be tough, but it’s definitely possible.  Look for more options, consider our tips, and ask your salesman for the best advice he can give you!

Combine -  See if you can lower your costs by simply combining your auto insurance with your home owners, and other insurance you have.  If you combine them all with the same company, they will usually give you a discount for using them on more than one thing.

Compare -  You will also want to compare your costs to other companies.  What are the going monthly rates for other companies to yours?  It’s best to shop around for auto insurance prices like it is for anything else.

Safe driving -  If you drive safely, don’t get in any accidents, and don’t get any speeding tickets, you may be able to lower your auto insurance costs over time.  Simply because they will usually raise your rate if you have a bad driving record since you cost more to insure.
