A common problem that many car owners come across is that their windows tend to fog up rather fast.  This not only be annoying in the Winter months, you’re also going to find that it can be dangerous, if it happens out of nowhere.

What can I do to defog my windows quicker?

First, you will want to understand on how the process works.  When the temperature, and moisture levels are different on the outside, as well as the inside, you’re going to find both your exterior, as well as interior windows fogging up relatively fast.

Now, what people generally do is blast the heat, hoping that this is going to get rid of the fog fast.  Instead, what it is going to do is make the situation worse.

What you’re going to want to do is turn off the heat, and make the air cooler.  You will also find that if you crack the windows, the fog will tend to go away faster as well, since the inside temperature will be very close to the outside temperature.  As your car warms up, you will find that you will be able to turn the heat back on.

Don’t blast the heat right away while driving, but instead, you’re going to want to keep it somewhat cool.  Sure, while this can be uncomfortable, it’s going to be very unsafe to drive roads, while your windows are fogged up.

You can find some kits online that can help with the fog prevention, but many of them didn’t receive the best reviews in the world.  You can always see the products here to see if you would be interested in purchasing them.  Basically, it’s either a wipe, or a spray that will prevent the fog from building up.

Your best bet is to simply match the climate on the outside, while you’re driving.   Over time, you can slowly turn up the heat.  If that doesn’t work right away, you can try products as well to see if those work.  99% of the time it is user error, but if you truly think there’s a defroster problem, you can check with your local auto mechanic.

Just about all Americans face some sort of accident in their lifetime.   Whether you recently got into one, or you’re just curious on how much someone received for a settlement, I wanted to provide you with some tips on how much you’re going to expect, as well as how the process is handled.

Looking at the process with car insurance:

After you get into a car accident, you will generally make a claim with your auto insurance company.  Every state is different, when it comes to laws, as well as who is held liable, etc.  If you really want to go after the other driver, it is always best that you get an attorney to get you good, legal advice.

Now, what the car insurance company is going to do is assess the situation, and determine how much you’re going to get in terms of a settlement.  They will look at the damage done, your bodily injury, as well as anything else.  They may also ask that you provide some sort of documentation.

After a few days, or weeks, depending on the car insurance company, they will come back with a settlement.

What happens if you’re unhappy with the settlement?

You can negotiate with them on the price.  You will find that many of the times, they will come back with a higher settlement.  If you’re finding that they aren’t meeting your demands, here are some things that you can do:

Meet with a lawyer: Find a lawyer that deals with car accidents.  Every situation, as well as state is unique, and different.  Talk to them, and explain your situation to see what they can do for you.

Do it yourself: If you don’t want to meet with an attorney, you will have to learn on how the negotiating process works.  FreeAdvice.com has a fantastic car insurance section explaining some of these steps.

File a complaint: If you feel that the process is quite unfair, and not going  your way, you can file a complaint with the Department of Insurance.

Overall, you will find that a lawyer if your best bet.   If he/she feels that you deserve more in the settlement, you will find that you can get more, in terms of your settlement.

While it’s hard to give you actual numbers, it will all depend on your accident, what damage was caused, and more.

If you want to purchase a car, there’s a good chance that you may find yourself on a website like Craigslist.  See, the thing that I don’t like about this site is that you can really trust anybody, since there isn’t a rating system, or a platform, where you can get your money back, if someone does scam you.

Sure, while there are legitimate sellers out there, where you can find some deals, let’s take a look at how a car scam starts, when you shop on Craigslist.

How does a scam work on Craigslist?

First, the buyer will contact you, and tell you that they want to purchase your car.  The kicker here is that they want to get it shipped.  This is a huge red flag right away.  They will tell you that they will have to pay via check, or a money order.

Now, what you will find out next is let’s say that you’re selling a car for $5,000.  They are going to offer you $6,500.  The reason they will do this is because they will want you to send back the extra money for shipping reasons.  When you send the difference for the “shipping”, you will more than likely have to send it via money order.  Once you do so, you can kiss your money goodbye.

Many people sadly fall victim to these scams, but there are ways to avoid these scams, and spot them.

  • Bad Grammar: Look at the email, and you will find that if you can’t understand what they are saying, or the grammar is bad, you may just want to avoid it.
  • Money Order: Honestly, avoid the money order all together.  You will find that this means a scam 99% of the time.
  • Wants to spend more: They want to spend more than what you have it listed at.  For example, if you’re selling for $2,000, and they want to offer $3,000.  This is where they want the “extra” money sent back to them.
  • Avoid meeting in person: C’mon, if you’re selling a car, you would think that they would want to meet you in person, right?  If they avoid meeting in person to see the car, this is another huge flag.

Scams happen all the time on Craigslist, but if you follow the steps above, I can assure you that you will find that you can avoid a scam 99% of the time.  As long as you use your head, you will find that you can more than likely have a good transaction, rather than one that stresses you out.

Purchasing a car is an exciting time, but it can also be a stressful time as well.  If you’re looking to buy a car, there’s a good chance that you may travel out of state, just to get the car.

So, if you’re going to purchase a car out of state, what are the steps that you have to take, in order to get it registered in your state?

1.  Proceed with the car purchase, as you would with any other car purchase.  Test drive it, as well as make sure that it is something that you want to purchase.  Once you know that this is the car that you want,  you’re going to want to get the necessary funds, in order to make the purchase.

2.  You will want to have the owner transfer the title to you.  They will fill out all the necessary paperwork on the title itself.    Keep this title, as you will have to take the title to your DMV office.

3.  Now, it’s up to you on if you want the car shipped, or if you want to drive it from point A, to point B.  This is really up to you.  If you’re going to drive, make sure that you hold onto that title, just in case you get pulled over driving without a license plate.

4.  Once you get to your state, you will want to take that title to your local DMV office.  Here, you’re going to pay all the necessary fees, as well as get your plates.  Every state is going to vary depending on fees.  To get your fees for your local state, a quick search should yield some exact numbers.

Buying a car out of state really isn’t any different than buying a car in state.  Make sure that you do some research with your DMV, because again, every state is going to vary with their fees, taxes and more.

Let’s say you just bought a new used car, or maybe you just want to get rid of a musty smell in your car as of today.  Whether it’s a musty smell, or it’s a cigarette smell, I wanted to give you some pointers on how you can get rid of these smells 100%.

You will find that by getting rid of these smells, you can make your car smell fresh, and new again!

#1 Wash and Scrub: My local car wash has shampoo carpet cleaners that I can use.  If you want to get your smells out, this is a great first step to take.  What you’re going to want to do is scrub the car, as well as make sure that you get all the tight cracks, and spots.  Rinse and repeat if you have to.

#2 Use Vinegar Overnight: A great trick that some people have used that seems to work is by placing a bowl of vinegar in the car, and letting it sit overnight.  While it may not get rid of the smell completely, you can leave it in there for more than one day to see how it works.

#3 Try Baking Soda: Another great trick that you can use is simply by using baking soda.  What you will want to do is sprinkle it over the carpet in your car.  If you can, let it sit for about 12-24 hours.  After it has settled, you will be able to vacuum it up.

#4 Clean from top to bottom: If you don’t have the time to do this, I would recommend that you take it into a detail shop, where you can get it done for around $100.  This is a great investment, because they will clean from bottom to the top, and make it cleaner than ever!

If you’re going to do it on your own, make sure you wipe down all surfaces with the appropriate cleaners, as well as vacuum inside.

While you will find that items such as air fresheners will work, you will find that most of the time they just mask the smells.  This is something that you don’t want.  Over time, you will find that the smell will eventually go away.
