You have many opportunities to help your vehicle live a better and longer life providing you with many miles of transportation. Today a good vehicle that runs smoothly and economically gas wise is vital to one’s existence. You cannot get to work, home, meetings, trips and do other function in society without a properly maintained vehicle. The distance is too far and there are just too many highways that prevent you from traveling without a vehicle. The economy is at an all time low causing the consumer to be cautious about buying a different vehicle. It is best to keep the vehicle you have and keep it properly cared for and up to date on certain procedures. The top necessary things that you should be doing to keep your car in good running condition are as follows:
1. Keep the air pressure in your car according to the owner’s manual and by checking it on a continuous basis.
2. Make sure that you do regular oil changes. Oil that becomes dark and sluggish causes your engine to work harder burning more fuel.
3. Change the air filter so your car can breathe properly giving you much better gas mileage.
4. While you are checking out the air filter also look into those spark plugs. Properly installed spark plugs can keep down the gas usage giving you a better gas mileage. You must make sure that you gap the plugs correctly.
5. You should watch your gauge to make sure that your gas tank never falls below a quarter a tank of gas. The reason your car starts to burn the sediment and sludge that accumulates in the bottom of your tank making your vehicle not fuel efficient.
6. It is wise especially during the colder months to put a fuel additive in your gas tank to help clean your tank and gasoline.
7. When you are pumping your gas do not trigger it fast instead pump it at a slower even pace. You will stir up the sediment on the bottom of the tank causing you to have more problems with the engine. You need to think and keep a “clean engine.”
We do hope that these tips are beneficial to you and it helps you to improve gas mileage in your vehicle.

Good tips. I would say #1 and #2 are the most important.
Also, I have created a way to record and compute gas mileage, in addition to tracking many aspects of transportation from a mobile phone. The program is called uTrack and is free to signup.
