Cars are going to need new brakes sooner or later.  If you have found out that your brakes are about to go, you may need to get them replaced.  So, the question today is how much is a brake job going to cost you?

First off, you’re going to have to decide if you need a whole new brake system installed.  You may find out that you only need the brake pads replaced, which are going to cost you substantially less than reworking the whole system itself.  A honest mechanic will help you decide on whats best for you.

Now, depending on the make and model, you’re going to find out that every car is going to vary.  On average, experts are going to tell you that each axel on your car is going to range anywhere from $80 to $270.  Again, this is going to depend on your car, as well as where you’re going to get it done.

Now, if more parts have to be replaced, your estimate is going to go up.  For example, if you have to replace your rotors, you’re going to be paying an additional $250 to $550 more.

As part of a brake job, many parts may need to replaced.  Some of these parts are going to include the rotors, the pads, the bearings, hoses, clips, or even the shims.  As you can see, some may have to replaced, or if you’re unlucky, all of them may have to be.

When you’re ready to shop for some brakes, you’re going to want to make sure that you meet with an honest mechanic.  I would advise that you talk with at leas 3-5 shops.  Many of them are going to give you an honest estimate for free.  If they can’t give you an estimate for free, then you can find one somewhere else.

Also, be sure to show your AAA card at some places because you may find that you can get a discount on top of your repairs.  Another good tip is to check with the BBB as well to ensure that the company you’re going to work with has a great reputation.

Remember that these are just estimates and your costs may vary.  If you already had a job done, be sure to leave your price in the comments below!
