Your car has just broke down and you’re now in a bind because you have no idea where to take it.  You’ve heard of the horror stories where the mechanic loves to rip the owner off but how do we know if they are telling the truth or not?  Finding the perfect auto repair shop isn’t that hard, it just takes a little bit of work.  Here’s how you do it:

Referrals are key.  The best way to find the perfect auto repair shop is simply by asking neighbors, family or friends.  This is the best advice I can give you.  If someone has a pleasant experience, they are going to tell you about it.  If the service stinks, do you think they are going to recommend them to you?  No!  Sometimes, you may even find that your friend may know how to fix your problem.  This can save you money right here.

Is your car under it’s warranty?  How old is your car?  If it’s not that old, you may be under warranty still.  If you can’t find the papers, call up the dealership you bought it from and they can lead you into the right direction.  If your car is under warranty, then what are you waiting for?  Go ahead and take advantage of it.

Hit up the phone books.  Now, when I say phone books, you can either be old fashioned or you can simply search online.  Call at least 3 places before you accept a bid.  When you’re looking for a repair shop, you must look for the following to make sure they are legit:

  • Check for certifications.  Ask if their workers are certified.
  • Check with the BBB.  See if they have any bad marks against them.
  • Check reviews.  Ask around the community or check online.  How’s their reputation?

Make an appointment.  Once you find the right auto repair shop, make sure you set up an appointment.  Give them details on what’s happening to your car.  You should already have a quote.  Once you’re appointment arrives, drop off your car and see what happens from there.  If the work is great, continue to do business wiht them.  If not, continue elsehwere.  There are thousands of mechanics out there, find the right one and stick with it!
