We always hear of horror stories when it comes to driving. If you didn’t know already driving alone is one of the most dangerous things you can do. With all the new technology that comes out, there are more distractions now more than ever. To make sure you are safe on the road, you will want to consider some of these safety driving tips. Read below and find out how you can become a safer driver today.
Phone calls - Are you guilty of talking on your cell phone while driving? Think about what you talk about and if it’s worth it to drive and talk at the same time. Cell phones are the top distraction among all drivers who get in an accident. If you want to get directions somewhere and must talk on your phone be sure you don’t get too distracted to where you can’t focus on the road. Many drivers today just talk about anything and everything that doesn’t need to be discussed while driving. Make sure you only talk on your phone if you really need to.
Texting – Just make texting a NO when driving. It is almost impossible to drive safely and text at the same time. We spend so much time looking down to find the right keys and keep our eyes off the road for way too long. All it takes is a split second for someone to switch into your lane in front of you, to then find yourself rear-ending them.
Music – We all love to listen to music when we’re driving but it is important to keep music to a minimum. That means try to avoid constantly switching stations, changing songs on your CD or listening to music too loud. Once we get so caught up in our music it creates a great distraction. Listen to your music on a lower volume and try to avoid changing your music so frequently.
Eating – A lot of us tend to live based on a pretty busy schedule which makes eating in the car more common. If you’re going to stop to get fast food on the way to where you’re driving try to park for a few minutes instead. Avoid eating when driving at all times. If we spill something, drop something, get food on us that is a huge distraction. It is hard to eat when driving alone, so just try to take a few minutes and eat in the parking lot.
Chatting – It is very common to have someone in the car with us when we’re driving. You need to make sure you realize you’re driving for both you and your friend. Don’t get so caught up in a conversation that you can’t focus on the road. We can all talk and drive at the same time but make sure you’re not so deep into a conversation that you can’t think straight.
There are many distractions on the road and we need to try our best to still focus on the road. Driving is one of the most dangerous things a person can do so try and beat the odds of getting into a car accident by eliminating those distractions today.
