Gasoline has been long over rated as the best fuel for a vehicle in order to get mileage and speed. The auto makers and oil refineries based their productions on this precept. Manufacturers of automobiles took the idea that if only gas driven vehicles were produced the consumer would have to depend on oil refineries. Who in turn depended on the auto maker to produce faster and efficient cars! This type of marketing proved to be prosperous for both concerns and it was well driven in the advertisements by the major oil companies. These companies also took control of the credit card companies which led way to consumers getting gas credit cards to help keep fuel in their vehicle but only gave way to high interest rates being charged.
The new kid on the block is now electricity. When the auto maker decided that the profits were being controlled by the oil refineries and they were starting to lose then it was time to use other sources to produce alternative fuels. Electrons are cleaner and greener producing great mileage. The newer hybrids run on electricity which can be produced by sunlight, wind or even nuclear power makes for a better driven vehicle. Electricity is easy to make and readily available alternative fuel.
Electricity considered being an alternative fuel since it is used to charge batteries that power motors in vehicles to make them run efficiently without giving pollutants into the atmosphere. Every year more wind and solar generating stations are coming online which makes clean electricity more available to the consumer. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles create their own electricity with no emissions making your life style cleaner and greener. One of the major aspects behind electricity is the heavily dependent upon breakthroughs in the development of longer lasting and more economical batteries.
When you factor in the emissions from the power generating stations from traditional sources such as coal, oil-fired or nuclear plants you still find that electricity still produces less than 10% of the pollutants. These are all good reasons to use electricity driven vehicles instead of the traditional gas guzzlers. The fact is that the cost of the battery at this time is very expensive and the power behind the vehicle is not up to par with the gas driven vehicle making these vehicles still not in the forerunner of manufactured hybrids. The automakers feel it will be some time before electricity driven vehicles will be taking the place of any gasoline driven vehicle.
