With gas prices rising, so are the gas steeling thieves.  It has actually come to people steeling gas right out of people’s tanks.  Below is a list on who the most popular people are to steal from, how the stealers are doing it, when and where they’re doing it. Check this out and avoid your chances of getting stolen from!

1. Who are the gas stealers most likely to target? Anyone with a SUV or truck.  The higher up vehicles make it easier for the thieves to get under the car and steal their gas tank.
2. When is the most popular time to steal?  At night.  When no one is around and it is dark thieves have a better chance of getting away with their acts.
3. Where are people stealing?  Non-busy parking lots.  When no one is around the area in a parking lot, it makes it even easier to get away with stealing.  If your car is parked way at the end of the parking lot with no one around you’ll be the biggest target!  This is easy to spot right away when driving around.
4. How are they really stealing people’s gas?  Thieves are stealing the actual gas tank off of a car.  By going under and snatching it right off.  If they’re not doing it this way, they’re actually sucking out all the gas in your car.

Watch out for gas thieves by avoiding these situations.  Try and park close next to other cars, park in garages if possible and try getting a gas tank lock.  The lock simply locks on your gas tank making it close to impossible to get off.  If you’re really afraid of getting you’re gas stolen only fill up a little bit at a time.  Thieves aren’t going to bother with a tank that’s only quarter full.
