Check online- Before you just call up the first locksmith you see because you’re panicking, make sure you call at least three locksmiths before you pick the first one.  Just like everything else in life, the prices are going to vary.  Make sure explain your situation to each one the same way so you know exactly how much you’re going to pay.

AAA discount – If you’re part of AAA, you may be able to get someone to come out to your car and get the keys out for free.  Depending on your membership plan, you’re only allowed to get so many visits per month.  If you’ve reached your visits for the month or year, you may have to pay a price.

Watch out for lost keys – If you’ve lost your keys, a lot of auto locksmiths will use technology in order to create a new key.  With a newer car, you may have problems with this situation.  Make sure you ask the locksmith if they will be able to make a key for you.  Before they even leave, make sure the key works.  You won’t want them to drive off and not have it work.
