If you’re in the market to buy a new car, you may want to check out FuelEeconomy.gov before you run out and purchase it.  Many people haven’t even heard of this site before and I highly recommend you check it out when you want to compare gas mileage and everything else.

On this website, you’re going to find out the following things:

  • City MPG
  • Highway MPG
  • Annual Fuel Costs
  • Carbon Footprint
  • Air Pollution Score

The thing I like about this website is that you’re able to get a lot of information all in one place.  You’ll be able to find everything mentioned above as well as comparison tools to help you pick out a car that fits your needs.

Here’s how you use the site –

1.  The first thing that you want to do is head on over to FuelEconomy.gov and click on the “find and compare cars” link.  This is going to take you to a page where you can start selecting what kind of car you want to look at.

2.  Select what model year you want.  In our example, I chose 2009.  After you click on the model year you want, you’ll see a list of car makes.

3.  Once you’re on the make screen, you’ll want to select the make of the vehicle that you want to look at.  I chose Toyota.  This will now take you to a list of models.

4.  Now that you’re on the model page, click on the model that you want to view.  When you click on the model, you’ll be taken to a detailed report on each model brand.  This is based on the engine, etc.  I clicked on Corolla in my example.

Once your detailed page, you’ll be able to view everything I talked about above.  You’ll be able to look at the MPG, the carbon footprint, which shows you the car’s CO2 emissions in tons per year and other things like an air pollution score and annual fuel cost total.

If you want to compare cars, place a check next to the car you want to compare.  This will then take you to the place we started at in the beginning.  You can compare up to 4 cars.

In my opinion, this is probably the best site online that’s funded by the government that will show you everything you need to know about each car.  It’s free to use and gives you a load of information to help you choose the car that you may want to purchase.
