I’m sure if you drive the wonderful roads of America or anywhere else, you’ve came into contact with an officer before and if you haven’t then I congratulate you, that’s a wonderful accomplishment so far.  But chances are that if you’re reading this right now, you’re probably wondering how to fight or avoid a speeding ticket.  While, I can’t guarantee this options are going to work, it’s defintely worth a shot.

Be prepared – The minute the officer throws on his lights, pull off to the right side of the road or a safe spot if you’re on a residential street.  Turn off your car, throw your keys on the dashboard, roll down your window, and put both of your hands on the steering wheel.  This will calm the cop down knowing that you’re not going to cause any harm.  If you simply start waving your hands and yelling, he’s going to get upset.  Remember, you never want to get outside of your car.

Don’t lie – America hates liars and so does the police force.  If the cop says you were going 10 over, you were probably going 10 over.  Don’t make up excuses and tell him that you needed to go to the bathroom or you didn’t know the speed limit, etc.  Just simply say you made a mistake and didn’t realize that I was going that fast.  As long as you’re honest, this will help your case more.  If you’re a first time offender, the chances of you getting off are greater than someone just making lie after lie.

Just be nice – Everyone loves a nice person.  No matter how made this officer makes you, just remain cool and be nice!  The nicer you are, the more likely you’ll get off.  Just think of people that are mad all the time.  Do you want to be around these people?  Heck no.  The officer will think the same thing and he’s going to punish you for being mean.  In the end, let’s be nice.

Avoiding a speeding ticket can’t be done all the time but the tips above can help you out a little bit if you try them.  It never hurts to try and if you’re a first time offender, cops are usually easier on you.  If you’ve been speeding ten times a year, you can kiss your license goodbye.  Use your judgement and remember, if you don’t speed, you won’t have to worry about this!
