Gas thieves are growing while the gas prices rise.  You know we’re going through hard times when thieves are actually stealing gas right out of people’s gas tanks.  There are many things you can do to avoid getting stolen from.  Below is a list on how to avoid gas theft.

  • One of the best things you can do is park in a garage.  Parking in a garage is pretty much a guarantee that you’re car and gas will be safe from gas thieves.
  • Avoid parking far distances.  When running into a store or where ever you may be going avoid parking far away in parking lots, especially at night.  Not only for your safety but to avoid getting your gas stolen as well.  Gas thieves target cars that are parked far away from buildings, people, and other cars.
  • Get a gas lock. Getting a gas lock makes it close to impossible for stealing gas.  A gas lock goes around your tank and gives a stealer a rude awakening.
  • Avoid driving your big trucks or SUVS if you can.  Not only do they guzzle gas but they are a great target for thieves.  Vehicles that are lifted higher up are easier to get under when stealing gas.
  • Move your car around.  Thieves will notice if a car has been sitting in the same spot for a while.  They figure no one is around to move it so it will be easy to steal from.
  • If you see anything fishy call the police.  It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Take these points into consideration and be one less statistic of getting stolen from.  Not only does it reduce your risk of getting stolen from but it keeps you safe and away from a dangerous situation.  Keep your eyes peeled and watch out for thieves!
