Everyone loves to save money in this world, I don’t care who you are. Today, let’s look at how you can save money on auto repair. No matter what kind of car you drive, it’s going to be in the shop for something. Whether it’s an oil change or you need something done, I’m going to give you some tips that you can use.
Avoid the car dealership
From my experience, the car dealership is ridiculous when it comes to pricing. I’ve had quotes for an oil change for $60 when I could have got it at a mom and pop shop up the road for $19! When you’re searching, get a quote from the dealership but 99% of the time, you’re going to get a better price somewhere else.
Look for coupons
Yes, a car repair company works just like anyone else. If you get a newspaper, magazine or something local, look in these publications to see if there are any coupons for work to be done. I’ve browsed through my local paper and found free tune-up coupons with $200 worth of work. This sometimes can save you a few hundred dollars.
Ask relatives or neighbors
If you know of someone that’s really good with cars, ask them if they can help you out with the repairs. Of course you can pay them but not only will you have to pay them less money, you’ll feel better helping someone else out you know. When you get your car repaired at a shop, 80-90% of that price is for labor alone.
Find the parts yourself
If you’re going to take the car to the shop, ask them if you can buy the parts and you’ll purchase them yourselves. A lot of the times, they will say yes because they obviously want your business. What car repair shops don’t tell you is that they usually just buy the parts from whoever they are linked too. Most of the times, these parts are more than what you could pay for them. A great place to check for car parts are on Amazon.
When looking to get your car fixed, I would recommend you get at least 3 quotes. Once you get a quote you like, look for coupons and as I mentioned above, try and buy the parts they need. If you do this, you’ll be able to cut back on your auto repair bills by at least 25%.
