- First, you’re going to want to remove everything you can out of your car. You will want a lot of space to deal with and nothing covering the floor at all. This means remove everything from the mats on the floor.
- Now, you’ll want to wipe down everything in your car. This means the walls, the ceilings and all the interior. When we move around and try to shampoo the carpet there is a lot of dust and dirt that moves around, so if you can beforehand, take care of that mess.
- Take out your vacuum and clean and suck up as much stuff as possible. Do this when your carpet is dry and with everything out of your vehicle.
- Next, spray automotive carpet shampoo on the carpet. First you will want to do the worst spots in the carpet so that the cleaner can absorb and diminish the worst spots first.
- Now get a carpet brush and scrub the areas with your cleaner. Rub back and forth and don’t be afraid you use a good amount. Try and do the worst spots first to avoid spreading the mess around.
- Let the shampoo set and soak into the carpet for a few minutes. After a good 5 minutes or so get your wet/dry vacuum out. Spray the area with water from the vacuum and suck up all the soapy shampoo.
- Keep spraying the area with water and sucking it up with the vacuum until it looks like the shampoo is gone from the carpet.
Shampooing your vehicle’s carpet isn’t hard at all, and isn’t a long process. Simply follow the steps above and find yourself getting clean, spot free carpet again in just a few minutes!

I liked the article and would add the use of a solvent for oil based stains or for anything that won’t come out with the above method. I have a Boulder carpet cleaning company and have found that good pre vaccuuming, a strong soap, and a good solvent will take car of allmost all dirty carpets.

I totally agree with Keith. I constantly vacuum my car carpet to make sure that dirt will not embed on the fabric. Once it is embedded, it makes it more difficult to remove.
