You never know when mother nature is going to let out a big winter blizzard.  As we all know, driving in the snow can be very, very dangerous.  Driving in the winter snow causes many car accidents, damaged vehicles, and a lot of stress every year.  To keep yourself as safe as possible, every car should have a winter emergency car kit.  An emergency winter car kit is good to have if no one is around to help you and others, if you are hurt or if somewhere close by is hurt.  To find out what you need to make your own kit, read some of the suggestions below:

First, know your numbers – You will want to make an emergency phone number list and put it in your glove box.  This is important because if you are stranded, have a phone but don’t know what number to call, you will be prepared.

Warm clothes/blanket – If you are stranded outside in the winter storm who knows how long you will be out there.  You want to make sure you are warm, and safe.  Load yourself with blankets, warm clothes and coats.  Also be sure to carry winter boots, scarves, gloves, and a hat.  This may sound like a lot right now but you will be more than happy if the time ever comes.  As always, it’s better the be safe than sorry.

Your tools - Be sure to have screwdrivers, hammers, and wrenches.  These tools are good if anything needs to be fixed on your car.

Car items – Always carry road flares, jumper cables, and fix-a-flat.  These items are good for drawing attention to other vehicles, jump starting cars – yours or someone else’s, and fixing a flat tire.  It is common that when driving on ice you may get a flat tire.  Ice can be very sharp which may puncture your tire.

Medical items – Be sure to carry sanitation wipes, alcohol swabs, gauze, Kleenex, band aids, and medication.  This is a good start to safety if any accidents happen.

Non perishable food – Since you may not have a clue how long you will be stranded always have food.  Whether you have granola bars, crackers, chips, anything, you will be happy as long as you have something to eat.  Also keep a few water bottles in your car in case of emergency.

You never know when a accident may occur or when you’re going to have car trouble.  It always seems like the worst case scenarios happen in the worst weather, so beat the odds and play it as safe as you can.  Consider having all of these items in your winter emergency kit because they may all come in handy.  Never underestimate mother nature.
