If you’ve just recently noticed that your check engine light has come on, you’re probably already dreading what it has to do with. Just getting it looked at will cost a fortune! So, what does it mean when it comes on? Continue reading below to find out!
When your check engine light comes on, that means that your computer system has diagnosed some kind of problem. If you didn’t know already, your ”Check Engine” light, is also called a “Malfunction Indicator Lamp” (MIL) or “Service Engine Soon” (SES) lamp. When this goes off, it could mean there is a major issue, or that it just accidentally went off. It can go off sometimes without even any problem due to a simple hiccup.
Although, once it comes one, there is no specific way to know why it went off just by looking at it. Instead, you will need to get it checked and then diagnosed through a scan. If you go to Auto Zone, they will be able to tell you why it is on for free. They will scan it, and print out information as to why it is on. Then, if you know someone that is good with cars, you can have them fix the problem for less.
So, if you’re looking to avoid those crazy fees at the mechanic shop, get it diagnosed through Auto Zone for free! Then go from there if it’s worth fixing or not. So, unfortunately there is no answer to the question just by looking at it. It could be anything under the sun.
