We all dread going to the auto mechanic when our vehicle needs attention.  Once we find out we need another oil change we often call around and ask where our friends and family go to avoid loosing money.  We all want a good mechanic and someone who won’t rip us off.  Although there are good mechanics out there, they all tend to stress a few things on us about our cars.  Read below and find out some of the lies or scams of an auto mechanic.

Cost of an oil change – Getting an oil change should not cost more than $20.00.  If you look in the sales ads you can find coupons for a $10.00 oil change sometimes.  Mechanics loves to charge over $25.00, if they can give you one for $10.00 why would they charge $25.00?  They wouldn’t want to loose money.  Ask beforehand how much it costs and if they say over $20.00 say okay nevermind I know some place that is cheaper.  Let them know people aren’t going to be fooled for their outrageous prices.

Miles until your next oil change – Getting an oil change is a very important maintenace role on your car.  Yes you should get oil changes every so often but not every 3,000 miles like they say.  I know many people like myself who have gone more than 3,000 miles and the oil is not ready for an oil change.  You don’t want to waste your money so avoid getting it done every 3,000 unless the color is bad.

You need this type of oil – Mechanics like to mention the most expensive oil and say it is the best and the kind you need.  They often say “put in this oil and your car will stay out of the shop.”  They’re going to say anything and everything to get your money.  Say no thank you, and stick with the inexpensive oil.  There are cars that run a very long time and they don’t need the best of the best to run like they should.

Avoid the scams of the auto mechanics by keeping some of the ideas above in mind.  If all you need is an oil change, you should be in and out and spending no more than $20.00.
