Many people are worried about which type of gasoline they should put into their tank. The price of gasoline increasing every day and sometimes multiple times during the day it is no wonder we have growing concern about using regular gasoline instead of putting the higher cost premium in our tanks. The experts claim that you do not lose much in performance from your vehicle by using regular in your tank instead of premium gasoline. They recommend that you use premium every so often to clean out the engine but it is not necessary for you to use it on a constant basis. Even if you do use premium gasoline it is claimed that in some of the older vehicles that it does not matter because they are already made to run on regular fuel.
The price between premium and regular gas may vary from twenty cents to forty cents but the energy content is approximately the same with no measurable amount showing. The factors indicate that both fuels work well in your vehicle. In order to get top performance and better gas mileage it is not the use of premium as much as it is using additives in the gas tank. Additives help keep your fuel line clear and boost performance levels.
Premium is unleaded gas with higher Octane levels made to help prevent knocking in the engine. When the octane is higher than what the engine needs then there is no need in using the higher levels of octane. Premium is made with these higher levels of octane to help engine performance but since many vehicles do not need this in order to perform better then there is no use in putting premium fuel in the tank. Regular gasoline is unleaded gas with few octane levels but works just as well as premium fuel. Many times regular will do the same performance for your engine as the premium fuel. The little bit of an additive that premium adds to the engine is usually not worth the extra cost you pay for your fuel. You can get by using an additive that is much cheaper and gives you more value in the things that it inputs into your engine making performance level even greater.
We all realize that the gasoline we put into our car works in conjunction with the engine and other parts to get us better gas mileage. We need to understand how the engine, transmission and even the tires can determine how much gas mileage we can actually see in our vehicle. Our selection of gas is of course very important but bewares of those commercials which push for a higher octane in order to get better mileage.

Good post – nicely written. It’s good for people to know this, so they don’t unnecessarily pay more at the pump.
