What the president drivesPerhaps “The Big Three Automakers” really should have concerns about their financial problems when the top men in the country are driving something other than American made cars.  The members of the Obama administration’s auto administration drive very few American cars. The Presidential Task Force on Auto Industry appointed eight new  members to help the already existing ten senior policy aides but found that of all the aides only TWO own American vehicles. This is something to ponder when you think about it as how are they going to tell the public to buy American in order to support American workers when they are riding in Honda’s and other foreign made cars.

Steve Rattner, the managing partner of a $6 billion New York hedge fund who will lead the Treasury Department’s auto efforts, has three imports and one domestic vehicle. Mr. Rattner owns a 2008 Lexus LS 460 sedan, 2007 Audi S4 convertible, a 2006 Mercedes-Benz R350 sport-utility vehicle and a 2005 Lincoln Town Car, according to public records. It is not necessary to discuss the types of vehicles that the other members of the team own and drive the issue is how this will affect the bailout situation. We all realize that part of being an American is the freedom to make choices, but will this become a “do what I say campaign not do what I do campaign.” We always expect our leaders to take control and lead us by example.  There are a few who claim that they do not own a vehicle well the question is why not? We need to get Americans to start buying American! We need to start at the top with the leaders such as those who are going to be helping the automakers restructure their plants in order to help pull us out of this economic slump that we are now in.

President Barack Obama traded in his Chrysler 300C for a more fuel efficient Ford Escape hybrid which shows the American people that he believes in our auto maker’s ability to create just a good a hybrid as our foreign automakers are capable of doing. Joe Biden owns a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette which is truly an icon vehicle from the collections of American cars. It is great that our top men are driving American made vehicles but we should insist that others within the White House follow suit especially if they are claiming to be there to solve the problem.
