Every year, thousands of people fall victim to auto theft and break-ins. Nothing is worse than coming back to your car and finding precious valuables such as a GPS system, radio, money, and other things that are of valuable. While there are things you can do to prevent these break-ins, these tips won’t guarantee any break-ins. Here are some things you can do in order to prevent break-ins.
Lock your doors – Most thieves like an easy steal. If you keep your car doors unlocked, you’re just asking for thieves to come to your car and take as they please. Thieves don’t like to draw attention to themselves and this is why they love unlocked doors. If you simply get into the habit of locking your doors, you are already one step ahead of people that don’t.
Hide everything – If you have a GPS that mounts or a satellite radio, etc, make sure that you put these in your glove box or somewhere where the thieves can’t see them. Never leave money, jewelry or anything of that nature in your car. It’s always easiest to keep your car as clean as possible. This way, you don’t have a lot of things laying around and if someone does happen to break in, you won’t feel as bad.
Park in safe areas – When you go to a store or anywhere during the night, make sure that you park in a nice well lit area where you know people are going to be walking by. If you park in an area that’s deserted and dark, you may be asking for a break-in. Remember, thieves don’t want to draw attention to themselves.
Install a car alarm – A simple car alarm will do the trick for most vehicles. Have you ever heard a car alarm go off in a parking lot? Most people will instantly look at the car and if there’s someone attempting to break into your car and someone sees them, someone can possibly call or the thief will simply run off.
Lock your steering wheel – Simple items like the club are a great addition to your car. A simple item like this will lock your steering wheel so that if someone breaks in, they will have to work even harder to steel their car if that’s their attention.
These are just a few simple steps you can take in order to prevent car thefts. Following these tips will help you a lot but it will not prevent thieves 100%. It’s your job to be smart. As long as you keep your car secure and you keep the valuables at home, you shouldn’t have that big of a problem with vehicle break-ins.
