Cool cars are hard to come by these days. There are a few on the market that have caught my eye. If your first inclination of a cool car is Bugatti or Spyker, then you’re on the right track.
In my opinion the coolest car was manufactured in 1981 under the DeLorean Motor Company. That’s right, DMC. If you’re familiar with DMC then you certainly should be familiar with the only car they ever made, the DMC DeLorean. The reasons why this car is cool are few but ever notable.
Gull-Wing Doors: A lot of people are shaking their heads right now saying: “Seriously?” Yes, seriously. Gull-wing doors have existed since the 1950s, first finding their way onto racing cars, and then to road-legal counterparts shortly thereafter. The doors are hinged on the top rather than the side. In this fashion, when the doors are opened it resembles a bird, or gull, with spread wings. This style is not to be confused with scissor doors where the hinge is at the front near the windshield. Only the coolest cars should have gull-wing doors, fortunately the true coolest one does.
Stainless Steel: John DeLorean knew exactly what he was doing when he made the car using body paneling. The benefit is that stainless still is non-corrosive, or in other words: it doesn’t rust. The only drawback is that fingerprints will show readily on the stainless steel surface. Honestly though, who would go to drive this machine without gloves anyway?
Time Travel: And oh yes, the most important feature of all! If you can get your DMC DeLorean to reach 88 MPH then you’ll be sent instantly to the time and date of your choice! Be sure to take your credit cards with you too. In the future, you’ll be able to replace gasoline with trash. Pretty nifty, huh?
Ok, so that last paragraph might be a partial plot to a movie. But you get the idea right? You’ll feel like you’re traveling through time when you drive this car. Not only because you can relate it to the movie but because it’s from 1981 in the first place.
Unfortunately, there are only about 6,500 DMC DeLoreans left on the road. Sorry, if you had your credit cards out ready to buy one, you’ll have to put them away. There have been talks of reintroducing the car. At this point however, that’s merely speculation.
