Running Your Car on Vegetable Oil Fuel
posted by FindGasCards.comSo you are tired of paying the high prices at the gas pump? I know how you feel and that’s why I have written this article. This article will cover the few steps needed in converting your diesel engine into a lean, mean, fry oil burning machine.
Parts
The parts needed to convert your car into an oil burning machine are basic. Below is a list of parts required and why you would need them.
- Fuel Tank- You can use your standard gas tank that’s already in your car, just drain it first. If you want to run both normal fuel and oil, you can find a small tank for the trunk,
- Heater- This is required to heat the oil before it is pumped into you engine. If you live in a hot climate, you shouldn’t really need one. If you don’t get the oil thin enough before you pump it into your engine, your engine will die. So make sure you get this if you need it, don’t be cheap.
- Fuel Lines- You will need metal lines, just like the ones that are currently used on your car. Do not use rubber hoses, the oil will eat them out.
- Fuel Filter- This is required to keep bad things from entering your engines combustion chambers.
- Fuel Selector Valve with Switch- This part is only needed if you are running more than just vegetable oil.
Installing
If you decided to just run normal vegetable oil, you can just empty the old diesel fuel, attach the heater to the tank, hook up the heater to the electrical system, and change the fuel filter. The only real change to the system is putting in bigger fuel lines, which is not that hard. Also, if your car is in a cold climate, you will need to get an engine heater as well. This keeps the engine from goofing up when starting. Doing the two tank method isn’t that different to hoop up, just place the selector value in place to combine the two fuel lines, run your lines with filter, and place your tank. Follow the other steps described for single tank use.
Maintenance and Closing
Caring for your fry machine is basically the same as a normal car. The only real difference is that you have to clean out your injectors more often. Don’t expect your car to be a hot rod of any kind after the conversion. This will not boost your performance any.
I hope that you enjoyed my basic article about converting your car to run on vegetable oil. This will help you reduce your emissions and keep some money in your pocket.
