The winter snow can be very dangerous when it comes to driving.  Driving in the snow calls for a ton of accidents every year, damaged vehicles, and a lot of stress.  To avoid these bad situations there are a few things you can do.  To make sure you are as safe as possible try and keep some of these ideas in mind when driving:

Don’t go out unless you have to.  Many people go out in the snow and underestimate the conditions outside.  They often just run up to the store to get something, or make a quick, unecessary trip.  Try to avoid doing this, the less drivers on the road the better.  Avoiding the weather conditions calls for less accidents, damaged vehicles, and stress.

Reduce your speed.  Whether you’re in a hurry or not, slow down.  If you have to be somewhere very quick still avoid driving fast no matter how important it is.  The other person that you’re meeting would rather you get there safe then in an accident.  At this point nothing is more important than you’re safety so keep that in mind!

Back up.  Don’t drive too close to the vehicle in front of you, this is how most accidents happen.  You never know when the driver ahead of you may slam on their brakes.  When they do, where do you think you’ll be?  Smashed right into them, so keep your distance.  Never drive fast because someone is tailgating you, instead ignore them.  You don’t want to drive faster because then you’ll be doing the same thing to the other car.  If any accident happens, it will be their fault not yours.

Avoid all possible distractions.  You want to be totally focused on the road when the weather conditions are bad.  Avoid any distractions that you can.  Turn off the radio, don’t talk on your cell phone, and focus on the road.  Remember how dangerous the snow can be at all times, don’t ever underestimate.

Never use cruise control in the snow.  This can be very dangerous, you will be constantly stopping, going, slowing down and speeding up, so never have cruise control on.  You want to be in control of your vehicle the whole time.

Turn on your 4-wheel drive if you have it.  Always use four wheel drive when the snow is bad.  This makes all four of your tires work together and have a better grip on the road.

Firmiliarize yourself with your surroundings and the area that your in.  If you do happen to go off the road because of the snow you will be able to tell somewhere where you are.  It is important to know the area that you’re in at all times and to pay attention to any road signs that you can see.

There is alot you can do to stay safe in severe weather conditions.  Make sure you always have a phone on you in case of an emergency.  Keep these tips in mind when driving in the snow to avoid any possible accidents.
