Are you in need of a new car?  It seems that our cars always die on us at the worst times and when we need them the most.  Buying a new car isn’t easy and it takes a lot of thought.  To make your looking process a lot easier, consider the steps below.  This will help you a ton when you’re looking to buy that new car.

What kind of car? – First ask yourself the most important question.  What kind of car are you looking for?  Think about who will be riding in the car (family or just yourself?)  After answering that you should have a good idea if you want an SUV, truck, car, van, or station wagon.  This will give you a good idea of how much room you need.

Whats your price range? – How much are you willing to spend on your new vehicle?  Make sure you have a reasonable and comfortable amount.  Before you talk with someone have the max amount in your head.  Places always like to suggest something else and its always “just a little bit more”.

Lease vs. buy – Do you want a vehicle that has the newest features, one with the best technology or do you just care about getting from point A to point B?  There is a lot to consider when leasing and buying.  If you’re unsure whether you want to buy or lease a vehicle be sure to write out the pros and cons of both.

Company – Do you have a certain company that you only want to buy from?  If so ask yourself why.  If you’re going to get a discount or like the cars by them in the past it is a good idea to stick with it.  If not be open to anything.  All car companies are great and will do anything to get you to buy their vehicles.  What’s most important is finding the best deal.  So if you’re looking at lets say a certain truck from GM try considering one from Ford as well.  Try to have an open mind, things will be much easier and you’ll have a lot larger of a selection.

The costs – Do you have an idea what kind of car you like?  If so ask yourself if you’ll be able to afford it.  It may have a great and affordable sales tag but there is always more to it than that.  Be sure to key in how much you’ll be paying for gas, insurance, and how much the maintenance will cost. 

Compare - If you find a vehicle that you really like go to all the dealerships in the area.  Don’t ever buy from the first place you go to.  Get a price quote and compare to all the other dealerships.  Try to even haggle with them.  You might be surprised at how much they will drop the price. 

Test drive - Make sure you always test drive the vehicle before you buy it.  Get a feel for the vehicle and see if it is worth the money.  You always want a vehicle to blow you away when you’re looking at it.
