The Government Plan with the Fuel Economy
posted by FindGasCards.com
Under the Bush administration the government has come up with a plan to overhaul fuel economy that may or may not help the consumer. Remember when the president sets out a program it lasts longer than his term in office. Most Americans expect the incoming president to make changes while others get irate if the incoming president tries to change policy and procedures. The fact of the matter is it is not just the president that makes the plan and sets it into motion but the acting congress also has a hand in passing these proposals. Once a proposal is set into action often it cannot be changed until the time period runs out. The incoming president may be able to add to the plan helping it along but getting the plan removed can be next to impossible. That is why it is vital that congress does not adopt any plan in a hurry but studies it very carefully. The Bush administration did adopt a long awaited plan to overhaul fuel economy regulations.
The question now is the plan to little to late or will it actually help the American people when it comes to buying gasoline at the pumps. The worse case situation will it hinder the new incoming president with coming up with a better more efficient plan for the consumer. One of the major attributes of the Bush plan is that modest improvements be made to help the performance of sport utility vehicles and other trucks. This will help those who have a vehicle like this or plan on purchasing one especially now since the cost of gas is rising. The plan did upset the environmental groups and other critics who claim it would do little to slow the nation’s swelling oil consumption.
The government claims their plan would roughly save about 25 days worth of gas under the current consumption rate which is the first plan to cover vehicles like sports utilities and pickup trucks. This is important to all of us because we need the bigger vehicles to stop consuming so much gas in order to get the control on fuel economy for us all. The 169 page program is very complex and it is not consider being all that helpful to the public at this time. There are too many regulations to be considered and it will take too long for them to be able to implement all aspects of the plan. Again the government has thrown the public a bone with no meat and the cost is like buying a steak. Perhaps we should buy a stake for our government officials who think more of the oil refineries than the American people.
