There comes that time in a young adults life when they get ready to buy their OWN first car.  They no longer have to borrow the car from mom and dad, have their license and need a car of their own.  Buying a first car takes a lot of patience, a lot of looking and a lot of hard work.  If you’ve saved up enough money throughout your young lifetime to buy your own first car, you want to make sure it’s a good purchase.  To do so, there are some things you will need to keep in mind.  Below we have tips for buying your first car!

Have patience – The first thing you need more than anything is patience.  There are thousands of cars on the market for sale and finding the perfect one for you takes time!  You want to make sure it’s a car you love, not just a random car you don’t really like because you wanted one ASAP.

Look around – It is always good to look around.  This means go to private car sales, dealerships, search the Internet, newspapers, etc.  Don’t just look in one place.  Find a variety of cars and mark down the ones you like.

Price compare – Make sure you price compare.  When we’re young we obviously don’t have a lot of money, so any money that can be saved is important and worth it.

Affordable payments – Also, if you find a car you like make sure the car payments are affordable to you.  Never spend too much money on one car because most likely you will have to get rid of it simply because you can’t afford the month to month payments.

Reliable – Another thing you want to make sure is that the car is reliable.  Are there A LOT of miles on it?  If so, you may want to rethink your decision.  Does it look like its falling apart and makes weird noises when you drive it?  If so, it probably isn’t the most reliable car out there so rethink your decision.

Good condition – It’s obvious that we’re not going to get some Escalade as our first car but we still want one that is in good condition.  This doesn’t mean it has to be expensive, but means the previous owner took good care of it and it is running well with barely any problems.

Reality – Is the car that you like realistic?  If you’re 16 years old do you really need a Hummer, a huge truck or a gas guzzling SUV?  Find something that is realistic and something that will be good for you.

As you can see, there is a lot to think about when it comes to buying your first car.  It is important to take your time on these searches, even though you are probably thrilled about getting your hands on your first set of wheels.  For guidance, be sure to consider these tips above!
