Tips for Driving in Icy Conditions
posted by FindGasCards.comWhen the winter months sneak up on us, they’re here for a pretty long time. The snow may be a pretty site, but driving in it’s a whole another story. Driving in the winter, snow, and on the icy roads is nothing but dangerous. Not to mention, if you don’t really need to go or be anywhere, you should really just stay inside. There are several accidents each year due to the snow. So, when you’re on the road, you want to make sure you’re as safe as can be. To make sure you are, consider a few of these tips.
Stay – As stated above, you want to make sure you only go out if you really need to. If it can wait, wait until the roads are plowed and safe to drive on.
Take your time – Be sure to take your time when you’re driving. Don’t be in a hurry to get anywhere because all it takes is one slip from your tires, and you’re off the road. I was driving at 30 miles an hour and still went off the road. So, make sure you really go under the speed limit.
Don’t worry – If other cars are tailgating you, ignore them. Everyone is always in a hurry to get no where. You’re better off safe than sorry. If they’re that bothered they can pass you, so leave that up to them.
Cell phone – Always make sure you bring your cell phone with you. Just in case something happens to you, or someone else you will have help thanks to your cell phone.
Emergency items – When the winter months hit, make sure you make a winter package that is in your vehicle. Have some food, water, and tools for your vehicle. These just may save the day. Also, be sure to pack your car with blankets. If you’re almost on “E”, you won’t be able to keep warm for very long.
Driving in the snow and ice is very scary. It is something you don’t want to do unless you have to. Make sure you get rid of all distractions, have both hands on the wheel, and you’re ready for anything. Also, consider a few of these tips to keep your safe on the road.
