If you’ve never driven in the snow before, it can be quite dangerous.  Not every vehicle handles well, and is made for snow, making the driving even more dangerous.  If you’re planning on driving in snow for the first time, or you’re just looking for some safety for driving in it, continue to read below!  Listed below we have some safety driving tips to make sure you’re okay on the roads.

  • Never underestimate the dangers of snow.
  • Make sure your windshield wipers are working properly.
  • Make sure your tires are fully inflated.
  • Turn 4 wheel drive on if you have it.
  • Always keep an emergency kit in the back of your vehicle.  This should include warm clothes, first aid supplies and blankets to keep warm (in case you have car trouble.)
  • Always carry a cell phone on you when you’re driving in snow.
  • Be sure to keep your distance from the vehicles in front of you.
  • Drive slow, and don’t let others rush you to drive faster.
  • Never talk on your cell phone OR text while driving, especially when driving in the snow!
  • Avoid going out too late at night when there is a lot of snow.  The darkness sometimes makes it very difficult to see well.
  • Avoid using a lot of the back roads.  Drive where there are more tire tracks, and where the plows most likely have plowed.
  • Do NOT drive if the conditions are too severe!
