Hurry Up! Get going! Late again! We have such busy schedules and we are not able to keep up with every happening in our lives. Luckily we have our fast running vehicles that can save us time. What about the cost? The economy being as bad as it is we need to start saving on our gas and get better mileage per gallon.  We need to rethink our method of travel and the rate of speed that we travel.

It is not always easy to slow down but it is getting economically wise to do so. The U.S. Department of Energy conducted studies that prove when you travel at excessive speeds or speeds above 55 miles per hour you are burning more fuel. You need to be able to slow down and go at an even accelerated pace. You can get from point A to point B normally in just about the same amount of time driving 55 miles per hour as you can when you drive 60 miles per hour, however, you lose money on your fuel when you go the faster speed. You can lose from a quarter to thirty cents on the gallon depending on the price of gasoline which ten gallons of gas used at the speed of 60 miles per hour can cause you to lose about $3.00. It is vital that you watch your speed when you are on the main roads and highways where you can increase accordingly. You should plan your trips and make them safely and cheaply and in order to do this there are some points that you can do.

Remember:

• Always allow yourself plenty of time to make your destination without having to speed. Try to take into consideration traffic tie ups, construction and other incidents that might slow you down.

• You can check your local traffic report on your radio giving you an idea where there might be traffic backups and take an alternate route. Avoiding congestion on the highway can save you time and gas mileage.

• You might get caught in a traffic jam do to an accident or other problem and you wind up being late. That’s ok, just apologize and go on with business as usual. It is not worth speeding in order to make up for lost time and endangering yourself and others on the highway. You might become the next traffic accident that ties up traffic.

Remember these things when you start to travel and keep your speed at an even keel will help you maintain your gas mileage and get to your destination safely.
