When it comes down to buying a car, many potential buyers want to know when it’s the best time to purchase a vehicle.  The running joke around here is when you have money but depending on where you live, this can vary.

Buy at the end of the summer

During the end of the summer, this is when you can get a hold of the older models and this is when the dealer unleash next year’s models.  You can usually take great advantage because the models on the lot are still new but you will find that the dealers are going to discount them now to get them off of the lot.

Wait until the beginning of the month

Most dealerships will start to offer incentives at the beginning of the month.  These incentives can range from 0% financing to cash back on vehicles on the lot.  They will take a look at the previous month and see what they can do differently.  It always pays off to be patience and shop incentives.

Go in the slow months

Slow months like the winter can help you because salesmen are desperate for sales.  Just like home sales, cars generally don’t move in the winter time.  If you find yourself going during this time, you may find that they will be more than willing to work a deal out for you.

Buy at the end of the year

If you’re patient and you want to wait until the end of the year, salesmen have said this is the best time because the dealership doesn’t want to pay the extra taxes.  Go in during December and throw out an offer and see how they can work with you.

Now this is going to obviously vary on where you live.  If you live somewhere warm all year round such as Arizona or California, you may find that people would rather go in the winter rather than the miserable summers where it’s 100 degrees plus.  It’s important to just do your research and negotiate with the dealership.  Remember that if you throw out an offer, the worst thing they can say is no.
