How to Avoid Speed Traps
by: Tom Tessin

Let’s face it; everyone in today’s world loves to drive fast even though you shouldn’t.  In fact, we’re not dumb, it’s against the law and if you do it too much, you’ll eventually lose your license and most likely won’t be able to drive again for a few years.  Below, we’ve provided some great details on how you can avoid speed traps.

Don’t speed – Remember This

As dumb as this one sounds, it’s so true.  If you don’t want to get a speeding ticket, you shouldn’t speed.  If you tend to drive a lot of city roads, you’ll find that driving over the speed limit won’t help you at all.  Most traffic lights are designed so that the traffic remains at a positive flow.  Speeding through these roads will only make other travelers doing the speed limit upset.  In the long run, if you don’t speed, you won’t risk getting a ticket.

Get to know the area

Chances are that when you drive, you’re going to be familiar with the area and the speed limit.  If you’re not familiar with the area you’re driving in when it comes to speed limits, make sure that you take note of how fast the speed limits are.  You’ll find that speed limit signs aren’t posted every five feet.  If you’re unsure of what the speed limit is in the area, make sure that you drive responsibly.

If you’re driving across the country, chances are you’ll be on the highway route where the speeds range anywhere from 55 to 70.  The best way to know your speed limits when it comes to highways is to simply keep up with traffic.  If there’s no traffic around and you want to be absolutely safe, drive 55 until you spot a speed limit sign.

Join an exchange

Exchanges such as http://www.speedtrap.org offer a membership where you can join and spot all of the main speed traps in your area.  If you drive a lot around your local area, you probably notice that there are a lot of areas where cops love to hang out.  This website’s sole purpose is to show you these spots.  These always help if you’re travelling outside of your comfort zone.

Electronic items may help

If you don’t want to be safe and you want to be a speed demon, we don’t recommend it!  There are items such as a CB radio and radar detector that you may purchase but they can be relatively expense.  Keep in mind that most radar detectors aren’t going to guarantee you don’t get a speed ticket.  They simply pick up signals that are familiar to a cop’s radar and alert you.  Keep in mind that these items may be illegal in your state.

Speeding kills and if you’re trying to find ways to speeding, it’s going to be awfully tough.  The sole purpose of this article is to show you how to avoid traps if you’re unfamiliar with the speeds.  Remember that speeding never gets you anywhere fast, it only endangers the ones around you.
