Choosing A Gas Card
by: FINDgascards.com

Applying for a gas card generally shouldn’t be something where you go out and just apply for the first card that you come across, instead you should choose your gas card carefully to ensure that you have one that will benefit you the most.  There are a lot of different cards out there to choose from and some work better for different people than others.  You’ll need to shop around to see what is out there before you determine which card is best for you.

The first thing you will need to look at when you are shopping around is where the gas card is accepted.  Many cards limit you to a specific brand of gas station so if you want to take advantage of the savings associated with that card you will need to go to that type of gas station every time you fill up.  This isn’t a problem for everyone, as you may have this variety of gas station on your way to and from work.  The key is to understand where you can use the card, if it has limitations as to where it is accepted, and if there are limitations to ensure that you can fill up at the proper gas stations.

After you determine where the card is used you will want to look at the interest rate associated with purchases.  Many gas cards are also credit cards that can be used for the purchase of anything and while the rebate percentage is fantastic the annual interest rate is sky high, so you don’t actually end up getting much of a rebate because you are paying so much in taxes.  Many people fail to look at the APR and they end up getting very frustrated or angry with their card provider as a result.  Save yourself the stress and frustration and research this from the start.

Lastly, you need to look at the rebate rate.  Many cards will offer you as much as six percent but other cards will only offer you two to three percent.  One is not necessarily better than the other, you just need to take into account all of the details about the card to determine in the end which one will end up benefiting you more.  Many people are surprised that when they do the math and they consider everything that they will actually benefit more from the two percent rebate offers than they will from the five percent offers.

There are a lot of cards out there to choose from, so don’t feel like you have to make your specific needs fit a card.  Instead, you should make the card fit your needs and you shouldn’t accept anything less.  Shop around and see what is out there that is just waiting to help you save on your gasoline purchases.  If you find something right out of the gate that seems like the perfect fit for your needs, go for it, but if you need to search a bit don’t lose hope that there isn’t a gas card out there for you, because there is!
