Gas Saving Myths
by: Tom Tessin
Every one that drives wants to save on gas and some people are willing to do anything to save a penny. A lot of the times people will hear things that will save them money on gas in the long run. Are these facts true or are they false? Below, I have gone through a few gas saving techniques that are absolute myths. We hope that the next time you try to save on gas that you don’t use these techniques.
The A/C affects your gas
Before you just start to use you’re air conditioning 24/7, make sure that you read this all the way through. Using the air conditioning affects your gas mileage but only by a little bit. Most people think that when you use your air conditioning that it will drain your gas a lot quicker. Studies have shown that using your air conditioning while driving, especially while on the highway only maybe drop your miles per gallon by a one or two miles. When you’re driving, just use the air when it’s comfortable especially when you’re on the highway when it doesn’t make a big difference. When you’re riding around town you may see a little difference but not a lot.
Fill up on certain days
People say that if you fill up on particular days, you can save money. This isn’t necessarily true. If you notice gas price trends, gas prices usually just shoot up around the holidays. Other than that, they will be a mystery throughout the week. How do you find the best days then? The best days to fill up are usually during the weekdays but if you have to fill up during the weekends, you will still pay the same price. The price may just be different by a few cents.
If you want to find the best gas prices in your area, use gas price checking websites such as gasbuddy.com or find out what gas stations are usually the cheapest in your area. If you do this, you will save money easier this way.
Restarting the engine
If you’ve heard that restarting your engine is going to save you gas, it’s not true all the time. With today’s technology, you’re not going to drain a lot of gas every time you start your car. The only time that this will help you are when you’re sitting idle for more than five minutes. This is when it will help to shut off your car completely.
These are a few of the myths that exist but most of the gas saving techniques that you hear is probably true. If some of the techniques are questionable, do a test yourself and see if you save on gas. IF you don’t see the mileage change that much then obviously that technique is false. The more testing your do on theories, the more you can possibly save on gas. It’s up to your and driving habits in order for you to save on gasoline
