Things You Should Know About Gas Cards
by: FINDgascards.com Staff
When you start to do your research on gas credit cards, it’s important that you look into every little detail before applying for a gas rebate credit card. You may find that there are some things you didn’t know about gas cards. The purpose of this article is to explain exactly how the credit cards work so that you’re not surprised when you receive your card in the mail and you start using them.
You need good credit history
Unlike some credit cards, you will find that a lot of rewards cards will require you to have decent credit history. What most people have found about gas credit cards is that most people need either excellent or good credit in order to be approved for a gas card. If you’re having trouble getting approved, this could be the reason why.
Higher interest rates
Reward credit cards may sound nice when you hear about them but what you will soon find out is that they have a pretty high interest rate. Some gas credit cards do have decent rates but a majority of them do have a range around the fifteen percent mark. If you do pay your bill off on time, this number shouldn’t really matter to you anyways. The purpose of a gas credit card should be solely for gas. Seeing that the average consumer probably spends around two hundred dollars a month on gas, this bill shouldn’t be that hard to pay.
Watch for the caps
Before you apply for your first gas card, make sure that you read the fine print closely. Some gas credit cards may only allow you to get so much back on rebates. This doesn’t apply to all credit cards but only a select few. If you can’t find this information anywhere on the application, it’s always best to call up the credit card company and request this information.
The annual fee
If you want to use this credit card only for gas, a lot of the credit cards don’t offer an annual fee. If you find that the credit card you want to apply for has an annual fee, you should probably look for another card. Most gas credit cards don’t have an annual fee. A card with no annual fee usually has just as good of the reward benefits as a card with an annual fee.
The only way you can benefit from these types of credit cards is if you don’t carry a balance month to month. If you think about it, if you’re not paying your balance off in full and you have a fifteen percent interest rate, you’re defeating the purpose of saving on money. It’s important that you follow these guidelines when you’re applying for your gas rebate credit card. It’s also your responsibility to control your debt and make sure that your balance is paid off in full each month.
