Tips

With
the rising prices of gas, saving money on gas has become something
that is important to everyone. Years ago, if a person liked the look
and feel of a car, they would buy it even if it was a gas guzzler.
But times have changed, and people are looking for ways to save money
on gas, and to make the most out of the gas that is in their automobile's
gas tank.
There are steps
that anyone can take to make their automobile more fuel efficient,
and help them to save the money that they spend each week on gas.
1. Accelerate your
car gradually
Something that
people tend to do a lot of is to accelerate their car too quickly,
especially when they are stopped at a traffic light. In a world of
busy schedules, traffic jams and deadlines, people want to get where
they are going as fast as possible. But gradual acceleration of your
car will help you to get more miles to the gallon and will help you
to save on gas, because you won't be fueling up as often.
2. Let your car
slow down gradually
Instead of using
your brake pedal when you know that you will be stopping soon, take
your foot off of the accelerator and allow your car to slow down on
its own. This will help with your gas mileage but it will also help
with your brakes and your tires.
3. Open the windows
and turn off the AC
Running the car's
air conditioning can really affect the miles per gallon your car is
averaging. Now that the cooler weather is coming, open up the windows
in your car and let the fresh air in. Your car and your wallet will
thank you for it.
4. Drive at the
speed limit
Some drivers have
found that less speed helps greatly with gas mileage.
5. Use cruise control
For those who have
cruise control on their cars and use it during long trips, they have
found that they can consistently get 4 to 5 more miles per gallon
than when they didn't use it. So use that wonderful cruise control
switch, and give yourself and your accelerator a rest.
6. Don't wait until
you are on a hill to accelerate
Another way to
save on gas mileage is to accelerate before you get to a hill. If
the hill is small enough, your momentum will carry you right over.
If it's too big, and you still need to accelerate, at least you have
a head start.
Other
helpful tips are removing heavy items from your car, checking air
pressure in your car's tires, changing your air filter, and doing
more in one trip. For the most part, saving money on gas is easy for
any one to do. The tips not only save you money on gas, but they will
also help your car to get you safely where you want to go.
