Saving Money on Gas
by: FINDgascards.com Staff

Saving money on gas has become the mantra for Americans in recent months. Frustrated by the steadily increasing prices of gasoline, they are purchasing the more fuel efficient models and the hybrid cars. But what do you do if you are not in the market for a new car? How do you save money on gas with the car you currently own?

1. Go into restaurants instead of going through drive thru.

If there is a long line in the drive thru at your favorite fast food restaurant, then it's much better to park the car and go inside. Sitting idle uses unnecessary gas and wastes valuable time.

2. Parking your car

Instead of driving all over the parking lot to find a close space, park in the first space you come to You may have to walk a little ways, but you have just saved yourself from needlessly using gas that could be better spent going to work.

When you park your car, try to park in the shade. Like all fluids, gasoline will evaporate as well in the sun, and that wastes the gas that you used your hard earned money to buy.

When you are going into town and running errands, park your car in a spot in between the shops where you are going. You may have to walk a bit, but you will be saving money on gas and getting exercise at the same time.

Try not to park your car in front of storefronts. When you park, and when you leave, there's a good chance that you will have to wait for pedestrians, workers with carts, and other cars to move out of the way before you can park your car or go on your way. Again, you are wasting your gas.

3. Find alternative means to work

If you live near a bus or a train station, consider taking public transportation to work once in a while. It will give your car a rest, and it will let you have the luxury of having someone else drive. If you have someone that lives close to you, arrange to carpool with them. Perhaps you could drive one day and the other person can drive the next day. This way both of you are saving money on gas.

If the weather is nice and you live close enough, consider riding a bicycle or walking to work. Another idea is to buy a motorcycle or a scooter and ride that to work. These vehicles are economic both in the price of the vehicle and the gas mileage. They can get up to 70 miles per gallon, depending on the model that is being driven.
