What Kind of Gas
Credit Card Should I Get?
by: Tom Tessin
By
now, you have probably browsed through our list of gas station type
credit cards. You may realize that some of the credit cards are only
limited to a particular gas station and you may be asking yourself
this question, “Should I sign up for a sole gas station credit
card?” Let’s answer that question for you.
There are advantages
and disadvantages on both ends when it comes to applying for a credit
card that is designed solely for one gas station. Let’s take
the BP Visa card for example. You’ll find that this credit card
can only be used at BP gas stations. If you live near a BP gas station
and you pass by them all the time, this is great! But let’s
say you are traveling on vacation and you will be unfamiliar with
your surroundings. Do you know if that BP gas station will be near
by?
What you will find
with sole gas station credit cards is that they will usually offer
a better discount. Like we mentioned above, if you travel a lot near
your neck of the woods and you live near some BP gas stations, then
that card would be great for you!
The best thing
about a credit card that is accepted at all gas stations is well,
accepted at a majority of the gas stations. You will find that you
will probably get a lesser rate but if you do travel a lot to places
you don’t really know then these types of credit cards are for
you. You don’t want to be on the brink of having no gas just
because you’re looking for the only gas station you save at.
By the time you find it, you won’t be able to get there because
you ran out of gas! By the time you walk there, come back and fill
up, you probably spent more than you expected.
If you ask yourself
the following questions, it may help you with your decision –
Do I travel a lot
out of the state?
Do I live near
a particular gas station that I want a card for?
Am I willing to
find that particular gas station each time I fill up?
If you ask yourself
these few questions, you will probably get the idea of what credit
card will truly work for you. If you’re looking to save money
in the long run with higher rebates, then I would suggest a card like
the BP Visa card. If you don’t mind filling up anywhere but
getting a lesser rebate, then I would suggest a credit card that is
accepted anywhere.
Gas station cards
are great when it comes down to saving money on gas. Just about everyone
drives and fills up with gas on a weekly basis. Why not save money
with you pump up your car!
